Alan Yentob visits the site

On Monday afternoon, Alan Yentob, creative director of the BBC and a Patron of the museum, visited the site, accompanied by the Mayor of Camden, Councillor Dawn Somper. Our distinguished guests and an accompanying press contingent donned hard hats, high visibility jackets and industrial Marigold gloves for a site tour. It was really exciting to be able to share our plans with them, and they were very enthusiastic about the opportunities the redevelopment will bring the museum.

Museum Project Steering Group visits site

Today, the Museum's Project Steering Group, who are overseeing the redevelopment, visited the site for the first time since the works began. Our contractors, Wallis, have now been on site since early January, and are making amazing progress! Its very exciting to see how the plans we have been working on for so long are beginning to turn into reality, and to walk through the spaces that are going to become our new galleries and facilities.

The entrance to the Museum is now recognisably a building site, and the facade of the Parkway building is covered in scaffolding.

It was good to see how the previous industrial heritage of 79 Parkway is being drawn on as the new building project gets underway. The building was originally a factory for the manufacture of pianos - as were many others in the Camden Town area - and what was originally the hoist to get pianos in and out is now being used to get materials for construction to the upper floors of the building.
I'll be making regular visits to site to check on progress, and will update the blog to show the developments as they occur.
